Transcend’s StoreJet “M” and “H” range of external hard drives have made a name for themselves by being military-grade shock resistant. The 3-stage shock protection system incorporates an internal hard drive suspension damper, a vibration-absorbing silicone outer shell, and a reinforced hard casing.
The StoreJet range consists of a number of different hard drive sizes and varying features. The model codes are 25A2, 25D3, 25H3, 25M2, etc. The “25” denotes the physical size, being 2.5-inch laptop size. The last number indicates the USB speed; model numbers ending with “2” being USB 2.0 compliant. The drives with “M” and “H” in the code are the rugged shock-resistant models.Â
USB 2.0 technology is called “Hi-Speed” USB and has a maximum signaling rate of 480 Mbit/s, thus an effective throughput up to 35 MB/s or 280 Mbit/s. USB 3.0 – called “Super Speed” – has a transmission speed of up to 5 Gbit/s, or 625 MB/s.
We had previously featured the StoreJet 25H3 1TB model, available at R999. Our featured HDD for the day, the StoreJet 25M2 500GB model, features the same 3-stage military-grade shock protection, connects via USB 2.0 technology but, of course, has a storage capacity of 500GB and sells for only R650. The 500GB StoreJet with USB 3.0 technology, the StoreJet 25H3, sells for R730.
