A Haswell processor has roughly 200 million more transistors than a quad-core Ivy Bridge – 1,4 billion vs. 1,2 billion. New advances in chip technology means that Intel’s Haswell processors have on average a 10% clock-for-clock advantage over their 3rd generation Ivy Bridge processor. For instance, a Haswell-based 4.5GHz performs faster than an Ivy Bridge 4.9GHz.
That 10% advantage is measured on current and old software, meaning that you should notice a further performance gain in the new software programme releases.
There are three other benefits worth mentioning about the Haswell:
a) upgraded Intel HD Graphics and new Iris/Iris Pro graphics improved 3D performance,
b) the lower clocked processor means power-saving,
c) Intel kept the price of the new CPUs about the same as the older CPUs.
Two affordable Haswell processor for Socket 1150 motherboards
If you’re ready to upgrade to the Haswell technology, we recommend one of two new dual core Haswell processor for your Socket 1150 motherboard (the Ivy Bridge runs on Socket 1155).
Intel Pentium G3220 3.0GHz
The Intel Pentium G3320 3.0GHz delivers excellent cost-per-performance value, featuring 3MB Intel Smart Cache and 350MHz graphics base frequency. This is the ideal entry-level CPU for home or basic business use. And it costs only R880.
Intel Core i3-4130 3.4GHz
The dual core Core i3-4130 has 4 threads and features the Intel® HD graphics 4400 which has a graphics base frequency of 350MHz and a Graphics Max Dynamic Frequency of 1.15GHz. With a clock speed of 3.4GHz, it can handle any number crunching your spread sheet throws at it. It costs R1 769.
