Asus Fonepad 7 FE170CG WiFi and 3G Tablet PC

The Asus Fonepad 7 was one of the first tablet PCs with full 3G phone functionality. A tablet with phone features is, as you know, called a phablet.

Asus designed the Fonepad 7 – the “7” indicating the 7-inch touch screen size – as an affordable Android tablet but with more-or-less the same features as those of more expensive phablets.

The 2MP rear camera and the plastic casing can’t match the quality of the top-of-the line tablets or smartphones but the Fonepad 7 makes up for it in more way than one.

Firstly, this is a Dual-SIM phablet. That’s especially handy if you prefer to keep your personal and business calls separate on a single phone. The dual standby feature adds to the benefit. And just as handy is the voice-calling functionality. Put it all together with the 10-hour battery life and 619-hour standby life and you’ll have the ideal gadget for a hard-working/hard-playing person.

There is a single speaker on top of the screen, just above the front-facing o.3MP camera. This speaker boasts SonicMaster technology, meaning the sound is directed toward you for clear listening when listening to a call or listening to music or videos.

Asus Fonepad 7 features

The Fonepad 7 comes with Intel® Atom Dual-Core Z2520 1.2 GHz processor with an integrated PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU to drive the Android 4.3 OS (which is upgradable to 4.4 KitKat). The GPU allows a screen resolution of up to 1024 x 600 pixels.

This model has a 1GB RAM, which enough to drive all the apps that comes with KitKat efficiently. One would always want more RAM but even the more expensive phablets do not have much more than this.

The 8GB storage memory is, we feel, a nice size, allowing ample space for storing music, photos and a few videos. There is a microSD slot that can handle up to 64 gig of additional storage.
