HP Z8 – world’s most powerful workstation

HP Z8: Dual Intel Xeon CPUs with up to 56 processing cores, 24 x RAM slots take up to 3 terabytes of RAM, 3 x Nvidia Quadro P6000 graphics cards, dual 1GbE Ports, 9 x PCIe slots, 10 x USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C ports, and up to 48 terabytes of storage.

Built for simulation, 3D analysis, and 8K video editing and playback on the fly, you can open a complete project in separate tabs while editing at full speed. And, yes, the Z8 is VR Ready.

The Xeon Platinum 8180 CPUs each feature 28 cores and 56 threads, 38.5MB cache, supports up to 1.5TB RAM and runs at 2.5-3.8GHz. This is serious processing power!

According to ArsTechnica

Those processors and memory can be combined with up to three Nvidia Quadro P6000 GPUs or AMD Radeon Pro WX 9100 parts if you prefer that team. The hefty desktop systems have four internal drive bays, two external (and a third external for an optical drive), and nine PCIe slots. Storage options include up to 4TB of PCIe-mounted SSD, and 48TB of spinning disks. A range of gigabit and 10 gigabit Ethernet adaptors are available; the machines also support 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2. Thunderbolt 3 is available with an add-in card.

On the official Z8 page, HP claims that the Z8 is the world’s most secure workstation: “Protect your valuable IP with the most comprehensive set of built-in security features including HP Sure Start, the industry’s first self-healing BIOS with intrusion detection.”

Obviously such features come at a price. The USA launch price is $2 439 for the entry level Z8. The price runs up quickly when the options are added.

The HP Z8 is not made as eye candy for office adornment. The beauty of this beast is beneath its skin, made visible only through the hands of skilled creatives. Throw a few cords and some footage at it and it will give you the opportunity to reach the top in your field.
